Linda Balot, DVM |

|
Born and raised in New Jersey, Linda Balot headed south to go to Clemson University for her Animal Science pre-vet degree and has never left. After spending three years at Clemson, she was accepted into the veterinary program at North Carolina State University and graduated in 1996. Her first year of practice was spent just outside Charlotte, NC at a large animal practice, before coming to Greenville and starting Greenville Mobile Equine Service in 1997. The rest, shall we say, is history. Personally, Linda has been around horses since attending riding camp at the age of 13. By 16, she was the head camp counselor. During her days at Clemson, she lived on a horse farm and was responsible for the care of 25 plus horses, besides being able to ride whenever she wanted. While showing was not her main thing, she competed successfully at the Intercollegiate Horse Shows for Clemson, and locally at combined events and hunter shows. These days Linda lives in Simpson with her 2 cats and a sand volleycourt in her backyard. While working and running the practice has taken up much of her time the past 10 years, she still finds time to play volleyball, travel, and is currently learning to play golf. This fall she is planning on getting an older event horse to play with. |

Dr. Ann-Marie Hancock has been an Associate Veterinarian at Greenville Mobile Equine since 2003. She grew up near San Francisco, California. After numerous lessons and camps, she finally got her first horse when she was in high school and competed in three day event horse trials and pony club rallies. She competed in Western Championships (US Pony Club) for Dressage and received her C-3 rating before going to college. Ann-Marie went to Colorado State University for all of her upper level education. She completed a Bachelors of Science in Equine Science, a Masters of Science in Anatomy and Neurobiology and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. After 9 long years in Colorado and LOTS of snow, Ann-Marie and her husband, John, decided to venture towards warmer climates and eastern shores. They now live in Greenville with their two Golden Retrievers and four cats. Ann-Marie also has a horse, Phoenix, which she rides English and dabbles with in dressage and jumping. She has recently completed a course in Veterinary Acupuncture and is looking forward to adding chiropractics to her repertoire in the near future. |

Don’t let the accent (or lack thereof) fool you. Jeff Legato’s family has lived in the South (Northeast Georgia) for over 10,000 years. He originally studied Geology (of all things) and during the next fifteen years worked in a research lab taking the time to travel, get his pilots license and learning to dive. He was 29 when a former girlfriend introduced him to the idea of riding as a sport; he soon added English riding to his list of accomplishments. Sometime later, he decided he liked working with horses more than being stuck in a lab all day and investigated going back to school to become a veterinarian. He got into UGA on the first try and started a few days after he turned 40. No, he was not the oldest person in his class. After graduation, he started searching for a place that would mentor him and give him the experience he would need to excel as an equine vet. The search led to an internship at a racetrack and referral practice in the heart of Acadiana- Cajun country– of Louisiana. Jeff has a wife (Shelly) and a daughter (Stefanie) who will soon join him here. His daughter has picked up one of his bad habits-riding horses. He is looking forward to settling into practice here in Eastern North Carolina. |
